Home away from Home (2023) documents the out of place feeling one gets from moving away to university and the way a new place is experienced with familiarity, contrasting with a sense of not belonging.
Lewis’ work explores the premise of navigating a new space, alongside how fluid the concept of home becomes, from constantly changing surroundings. Shot on 35mm, the prints depict the idea of a journey, coinciding with the experience Lewis had, focusing on the landscapes around as she navigated the spaces.
The focus on the material hints at the differing textures in the two varying places, presented within a grid as a way of showing this feeling that is alternated, muddling together whilst being back and forth between each place.
